Graphic Design

I launched my graphic design business, Whitney Scharer Design, in 2015, after working for ten years as the Development and Communications Director at GrubStreet, a non-profit literary arts center based in Boston. I have experience working with individuals and organizations in the fields of publishing, the arts, education and more. Clients include 617Books, BookSavvy Public Relations, GrubStreet, Mt. Holyoke College, and the Boston Book Festival. I also love doing cover design and marketing collateral for self-published authors.

Book Cover Design

Your book cover is your book’s first impression on a reader, and you want it to function as an interesting and engaging visual metaphor for what's inside. I like to work with your vision—from a vague idea, like a general color, symbol or image that resonates with you, to a specific photograph that you’d like incorporated into the design. I’m also happy to start from scratch with minimal direction. It’s up to you. No matter how our design process unfolds, I want you to feel great about the design we create for your book.

Print Collateral

Having a professional and cohesive look to all your marketing materials will set you apart from the crowd. I can work with you to create materials from scratch, or to refresh existing collateral. I have experience designing advertisements, brochures, direct mail pieces, annual reports, posters, sales materials, folders, infographics, and more.

Need a logo for your business? Have an anniversary year coming up and want to refresh your existing brand identity? I can work with you to create taglines, logos, business cards, letterhead, communications plans, and more.

I love writing friendly, professional, engaging copy. Whether you need help defining a voice for your organization or sending out a simple email, I can help you craft copy that resonates with your audience.
